Rough Filament Estimate — “Turns per Meter” Method

Rough Filament Estimate — “Turns per Meter” Method

  1. Mark a single point on the filament still wound on the spool.
  2. Pull out exactly 1 meter of filament and count how many full turns it takes to unwind that 1 meter.
    • Example: 1 meter = 18 turns
  3. Count the total number of turns remaining on the spool (estimate by counting height layers from spool center and width layers inside of spool and multiplying).
  4. Calculate the remaining length:remaining_meters = total_turns / turns_per_meter
    • Example: If 18 turns = 1 meter, and the spool has about 220 turns: 220 / 18 ≈ 12.2 meters left

This method gives only a rough estimate, but it’s fast and requires no scale, no measurements, and no math beyond simple division.
